LIEUTENANT GENERAL PAUL T. CALVERT

Commander, Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve

Lt. Gen. Paul T. Calvert is the Commander, Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve, U.S. Central Command.

Calvert hails from Athens, Georgia and earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant of Armor Dec. 6, 1987. His initial assignment was with 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment from 1988-1991 as a Tank Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader and Troop Executive Officer in Amberg, Germany with duty in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm in Iraq.

From 1992-1996, he served in several staff positions with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Bliss, Texas which included command of E Troop, 2nd Squadron and the Regimental Headquarters and Headquarters Troop from 1993-1996. Calvert then served as the Armor Branch Chief, Enlisted Personnel Management Directorate, U.S. Personnel Command in Alexandria, Virginia from 1996 to 1999.

From 2000 to 2002, he served as the Regimental Training Officer, 2nd Squadron Operations Officer and Regimental Operations Officer with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Irwin, California. From 2002-2004, he then served as the Regimental Operations Officer for the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, Colorado with duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Anbar Province, Iraq. From 2004-2006, he then served as an Interagency and Civil Support Planner with the Standing Joint Force Headquarters, U.S. Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

Calvert commanded 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas from 2006-2009 with duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Diyala Province, Iraq. Following squadron command, he assumed command of the 2nd Armor Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas from 2010-2012 with duty in support of Operation New Dawn in Baghdad. Following brigade command, he became the 21st Commander of Operations Group, National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California from 2012-2014 and later served as the Deputy Director for Operations, National Military Command Center, J3, Joint Staff in Washington, D.C. from 2014-2016.

From 2016-2017, Calvert served as the Deputy Commanding General – Maneuver for 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas where he deployed in support of Operation Resolute Support and Freedom’s Sentinel, serving as the Commanding General of Train Advise Assist Command – East in Laghman Province, Afghanistan. From 2017-2019, he served as the Commanding General of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. Calvert then served as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7, U.S. Army from 2019 to 2020.

Calvert is a distinguished military graduate of North Georgia College and holds a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the Air University at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. He has served on teams that were awarded three Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, three Valorous Unit Awards and the Meritorious Unit Citation. Calvert has also earned the Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge.
