ISIS Actions Lead to Loss of Protected Status

By CJTF-OIR PAO | Dec. 10, 2018

SOUTHWEST ASIA – ISIS forces used the Hajin Hospital as a platform to engage CJTF-OIR partner forces on Dec. 9.

By these actions, ISIS caused the hospital to lose its protected status afforded by the Law of Armed Conflict by using a facility otherwise protected under the Geneva Conventions.

“ISIS has no regard for human life. As we close in on them, they are getting more and more desperate and are hiding behind the safety of mosques, hospitals, and other protected sites,” said Maj. Gen. Patrick Roberson, Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve Commanding General. “Hiding is futile and we will continue to work with our partner forces to find ISIS and ensure their lasting defeat.”

CJTF-OIR works by, with and through partner forces to defeat ISIS in designated areas of Iraq and Syria.
