SOUTHWEST ASIA— Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve joins Iraqi leaders and citizens in celebrating the 98th anniversary of the activation of the Iraqi Army. The Iraqi Army was activated on Jan. 6, 1921.
“Our Iraqi partners have trained and fought diligently to liberate their country from ISIS and continue to fight to provide security to the Iraqi people,” said U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Austin Renforth, commander of the Joint Operations Command – Iraq. “It is not just a duty, it is an honor to work beside our Iraqi partners in this fight to protect this country they call home.”
“We have accomplished so much as a unified force and we are honored to be a part of today’s celebration of the Iraqi Army,” Renforth added.
The Coalition has a long-standing partnership with the Iraqi Army, bounded by shared experiences and a fundamental mission to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS. Coalition forces, comprised of 74 partner nations and five international organizations, are deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve; working by, with and through the Iraqi Security Forces to bring about the enduring defeat of ISIS.
