CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve hosted over 30 national representatives from troop contributing nations at Union III, Iraq, June 4, 2019 for a day of in-depth discussions on the evolving efforts to fully defeat Daesh in Iraqi and Syria.
This was the first meeting of ambassadors and senior national representatives with CJTF leadership since the elimination of Daesh’s so-called physical caliphate, which was a significant milestone toward their enduring defeat.
The representatives and CJTF leadership focused on the critical importance of continuing international support to stabilization and security assistance in Iraq and Syria in light of Daesh’s transition to low-level warfare. This enduring support will prevent the conditions that led to the rise of Daesh in 2012 to 2014.
“The unwavering commitment of each member nation to ensure the enduring defeat of Daesh is the strength of this Coalition,” said British Maj. Gen. Christopher Ghika, CJTF-OIR Deputy Commander-Stability. “The enduring defeat of Daesh will not be achieved purely by military means, it will take a unified effort by the international community in support of the government of Iraq and the Syrian Civil Councils to help set the conditions on the ground to provide the stability their people seek and deny Daesh the ability to return.”
CJTF-OIR, its partner forces and its unified action partners are committed to preventing a resurgence of Daesh in Iraq and Syria and remain committed to working with the Global Coalition to ensure stabilization efforts can continue along with the safe and voluntary return home of those displaced by Daesh.
