CJTF-OIR Commander condemns indirect fire strikes in Iraqi Kurdistan Region

By CJTF-OIR Public Affairs

BAGHDAD, Iraq – At 08:50 a.m. indirect fire struck several locations within the Erbil Governorate in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

No CJTF-OIR forces were killed or wounded by the indirect fire, and the strikes caused no damage to U.S. or Coalition infrastructure or equipment.

“I strongly condemn these strikes in the Kurdistan region as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty” said Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane, commander of CJTF-OIR.

Earlier this year on Sept. 28, 2022 the Iranian government claimed responsibility for strikes in this same region that killed dozens of people and caused significant damage.

CJTF-OIR personnel are stationed in Iraq at the invitation of the Government of Iraq to advise, assist and enable Partner Forces at the operational level.
