Belgium is committed to tackling the threat posed by Daesh,
addressing the challenge at home and abroad. Belgium participates in the
Coalition’s military and diplomatic efforts, including building the capacity
and resilience of Iraq’s Security Forces. Belgium also plays a full part in the
humanitarian response to the region.
Belgium contributes to Combined Joint Task Force – Operation
Inherent Resolve, the multinational coalition dedicated to militarily defeating
Daesh in Iraq and Syria, as follows:

Sorties flown by Belgian F-16’s to provide close
support, airstrikes, interdiction and reconnaissance in Iraq. These sorties
will resume in July, 2016.
- Belgian F-16 fighter planes carried out missions
in support of countering Daesh
- Belgium advisors are also participating in the
Coalition’s efforts training Iraqi Security Forces in Baghdad, supporting the
German military’s efforts to train the Peshmerga, and providing medical
supplies to those fighting Daesh on the front line in Iraq.
- Belgium’s frigate, Leopold I, escorted the
French aircraft carrier, Charles de Gaulle in the eastern Mediterranean from 18
November 2015 until 4 January 2016.
