Command Master Chief (CMDCM) Timothy L. Garman grew up in Britt, Iowa and graduated from Corwith-Wesley/Lu Vern High school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1994 and completed both basic military training and Nuclear Power “A” School in Orlando, Florida (FL). After graduation, he completed follow-on Nuclear Prototype Training in Charleston, South Carolina.
CMDCM Garman reported to USS KEY WEST (SSN-722) homeported at submarine Base Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in 1996. There he completed two (2) western pacific (WESTPAC) deployments.
In 2006, he was assigned to Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, Panama City, FL for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) dive school, then reported to Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School (NAVSCOLEOD). In 2008 he earned his Basic Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) warfare qualification. His operational assignments include tours at EOD Mobile Unit EIGHT and EOD Mobile Unit ONE.
CMDCM Garman deployed multiple times in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) and Operation NEW DAWN (OND). Additionally, he completed joint tours with: the United States Army Special Forces, Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR), and Combined Joint Interagency Task Force-GALLANT PHOENIX. CMDCM Garman’s shore assignments include tours at EOD Training and Evaluation Unit ONE, San Diego, California (CA) as the Training Department Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) and with Theater Special Operations Command-Pacific (SOCPAC) as the Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Branch Senior Enlisted Advisor and Navy Element Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL). CMDCM Garman earned his Senior Explosive Warfare Specialist (EWS) badge in 2010 and his Master EWS in 2013.
CMDCM Garman was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2012, Senior Chief in 2014 and Master Chief in 2020. He is a graduate of the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 25).
His military awards include the Navy Achievement Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Joint Meritorious Commendation Medal, and the Navy Command Medal (2nd Award). CMDCM Garman is currently assigned to Commander, Counter Mine Response COMCMRON FIVE/Combined Task Force-52, Manama, Bahrain as the Command SEL.
