Sergeant Major Bryan M. Alfaro

Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve

A native of Fullerton, California, Sergeant Major Alfaro enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1995 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Upon graduation, he attended Military Police School, where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 5811. He graduated as the honor graduate and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In June 1996, he transferred to the Selected Marine Corps Reserve and reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 473 at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California, later transitioning to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Throughout this period, he served as a squad leader and patrol supervisor and was subsequently promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant.

Following the events of September 11, 2001, his reserve unit was activated for 12 months. Upon completion of this activation, he augmented to regular active duty, continuing his service as a military policeman. He excelled in multiple leadership roles, including Platoon Sergeant, Special Reaction Team member, and Company Gunnery Sergeant, serving in both garrison and deployed military police units.

In October 2006, Staff Sergeant Alfaro volunteered for Drill Instructor Duty at MCRD San Diego. During this tour, he served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Series Chief Drill Instructor, and Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival. His leadership in training environments continued across several Training and Education Command units, including the Military Police Instruction Company at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. He later served as the Sergeant Major for First Recruit Training Battalion and subsequently Support Battalion at MCRD Parris Island.

Sergeant Major Alfaro’s operational deployments include an individual augmentation assignment to Afghanistan as the Physical Security and Force Protection SNCOIC for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, alongside multiple deployments across the Indo-Pacific with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Having served in all elements of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF), his career includes assignments throughout the United States and overseas.

In February 2023, Sergeant Major Alfaro reported to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. In July 2026, he was selected for his current assignment as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve.

Sergeant Major Alfaro is married to the former Erin Toedter of Tustin, California. They have three children: Dylan (21), Gavin (19), and Morgan (16). His personal award include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star.
