This week's building partner capacity graphic features photos of British coalition partners demonstrating medical techniques during training at Camp Taji, Iraq; and Americans help further Iraqi’s knowledge of the M1 Abrams tank at the Besmaya Range Complex, Iraq.

By enabling Iraqi Security Forces through advise and assist, and building partner capacity missions, the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve’s multinational coalition is helping the Government of Iraq to set the conditions to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Strikes in Iraq

Ground-attack, fighter, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft conducted 22 strikes in Iraq, coordinated with and in support of Iraq’s government.

WEEKLY STRIKE UPDATE: Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve conducted 162 strikes this week, 138 strikes in Iraq and 24 strikes in Syria from Apr. 30th - May 6th, 2016.

- On April 30th near Mar’a, two strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL fighting positions. 

 - On May 4th, near Fallujah, six strikes struck three separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed four ISIL fighting positions, an ISIL heavy machine gun, an ISIL anti-aircraft artillery system, three ISIL tunnel entrances, an ISIL mortar system, an ISIL VBIED, an ISIL weapons cache, and four ISIL bed down locations. 

 - And on May 6th, near Mosul, three strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and an ISIL communications facility and destroyed three ISIL fighting positions and an ISIL heavy machine gun and suppressed an ISIL mortar position.

WEEKLY STRIKE UPDATE: Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve conducted 158 strikes this week, 124 strikes in Iraq and 34 strikes in Syria from Apr. 23rd - Apr. 29th, 2016.

- On April 23rd near Mar’a, Syria, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL fighting position, and an ISIL vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). 

 - On April 26th near Fallujah, three strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two ISIL mortar systems and suppressed an ISIL tactical unit. 

 - And on April 29th, near Mosul, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL assembly areas, two ISIL bed down locations, two ISIL fighting positions, and an ISIL weapons cache.

U.S. and coalition military forces continued to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Syria and Iraq yesterday.

 Combined Joint Task Force - Inherent Resolve officials reported the following details of yesterday’s strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports:

 Strikes in Syria

 Attack and fighter aircraft conducted three strikes near Mara in Syria, striking three separate ISIL tactical units and destroying two ISIL fighting positions.

 Strikes in Iraq

 Attack, ground-attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft conducted 15 strikes in Iraq, coordinated with and in support of the Iraqi government:

 -- Near Fallujah, a strike struck an ISIL tactical unit. 

 -- Near Hit, two strikes destroyed an ISIL mortar system, 14 ISIL boats and an ISIL vehicle.

 -- Near Kisik, a strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

 -- Near Mosul, four strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, 14 ISIL modular oil refineries and two ISIL crude oil stills and destroyed an ISIL assembly area and 10 ISIL boats. 

 -- Near Qayyarah, three strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed 24 ISIL boats, two ISIL rocket rails and two ISIL assembly areas. 

 -- Near Sinjar, two strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL mortar system and an ISIL assembly area. 

 -- Near Sultan Abdallah, a strike suppressed an ISIL tactical unit.

 -- Near Tal Afar, a strike suppressed an ISIL tactical unit.

 Task force officials define a strike as one or more kinetic events that occur in roughly the same geographic location to produce a single, sometimes cumulative, effect. Therefore, officials explained, a single aircraft delivering a single weapon against a lone ISIL vehicle is one strike, but so is multiple aircraft delivering dozens of weapons against buildings, vehicles and weapon systems in a compound, for example, having the cumulative effect of making those target

 -- Near Abu Kamal, a strike struck an ISIL weapons factory.

 -- Near Al Hawl, a strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.

 -- Near Ar Raqqah, a strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL vehicle.

 -- Near Dayr Az Zawr, a strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL checkpoint.

 -- Near Manbij, four strikes struck four separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed four ISIL vehicles.

-- Near Mar’a, a strike destroyed an ISIL staging area.

 -- Near Washiyah, a strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed an ISIL fighting position.

 Strikes in Iraq

 Rocket artillery and bomber, fighter, ground-attack, and remotely piloted aircraft conducted 20 strikes in Iraq, coordinated with and in support of Iraq’s government:

 -- Near Baghdadi, eight strikes struck an ISIL tactical unit, two ISIL weapons storage facilities, and three ISIL bed down locations and destroyed three ISIL bunkers and denied ISIL access to terrain.

 -- Near Qaim, a strike struck an ISIL bomb-making facility.

 -- Near Beiji, a strike destroyed an ISIL fighting position and an ISIL bomb.

 -- Near Fallujah, three strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL-used bridge, an ISIL fighting position, two ISIL heavy machine guns, an ISIL bunker, and an ISIL tunnel system.

 -- Near Hit, a strike struck an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed four ISIL heavy machine guns and an ISIL recoilless rifle.

 -- Near Kirkuk, a strike destroyed an ISIL command and control node and an ISIL-used bridge.
