Baghdad –
BAGHDAD, Iraq – At 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, 2022, indirect fire and an unmanned aerial vehicle struck several locations within the Erbil Governorate in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
No CJTF-OIR forces were killed or wounded by the indirect fire, and the strikes caused no damage to U.S. or Coalition infrastructure or equipment.
“I continue to condemn these strikes as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty,” said Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane, commander of CJTF-OIR. “These attacks place innocent civilians at risk. Such acts jeopardize the security and stability of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.”
Last week on Nov. 14, 2022, the Iranian government claimed responsibility for cross-border strikes in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region that killed at least two people and wounded civilians. Also, earlier this year on Sept. 28, 2022, the Iranian government claimed responsibility for strikes in this same region that killed dozens of people and caused significant damage.
CJTF-OIR personnel are stationed in Iraq at the invitation of the Government of Iraq to advise, assist and enable Partner Forces at the operational level in ensuring the lasting defeat of ISIS.
