Coalition Service Members Conduct Controlled Detonation in Iraq

By CJTF-OIR Public Affairs

BAGHDAD, Iraq – On Jan. 5, 2024, Coalition service members will be conducting a controlled detonation of unserviceable munitions in or near the Khalidiyah region in Iraq.

Extensive planning and proper safety measures are taken before and during controlled detonations in order to protect the Coalition and the local population. Controlled detonations are performed in remote locations far away from the civilian populace for their safety. These operations ensure the Coalition’s continued capability to support our partner forces and protect our Coalition service members.

Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve advises, assists, and enables partner forces to secure the lasting defeat of ISIS and to enable the establishment of enduring security cooperation framework.
